A vital component of Leadership Johns Creek is community service. The graduating classes to date have made substantial contributions to the Johns Creek community.
Inaugural Class of 2010 Projects: The Newtown Park Community Garden; the Environmental Teaching Pond at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and Heritage Center; four Historical markers/educational signs installed along the Johns Creek greenway; and a video depicting the unique history of Johns Creek which is available for use by community groups and schools.
Class of 2011 Projects: A certified Natural Wildlife Habitat and upgraded Greenway near Johns Creek High School; the “Billy Badge Program” to introduce Public Safety to kindergarten and 1st grade elementary school children; “Crossing Over Johns Creek” signs to mark each location in the community where the road crosses the actual Johns Creek; and historical markers at the locations where Johns Creek enters the city (headwaters) and feeds into the Chattahoochee River (tail waters).
Class of 2012 Project: Refreshed and enhanced fitness Trail 7 in the Johns Creek Technology Park. This beautiful half mile lake-front trail was transformed with new fitness stations, benches, picnic tables, bird houses, trash receptacles and artwork for the Johns Creek Community to enjoy.
Class of 2013 Projects: Replaced aging office furniture at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve's welcome center. Built collection bins for Georgia Foster Care Support Foundation and collected gently used prom dresses to give girls who couldn't afford to purchase formal attire; partnered with the Johns Creek Veterans Association to promote the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk at Newtown Park; constructed a storage shed at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve; and, created a Public Art Master Plan for the City of Johns Creek which received City Council approval.
Class of 2014 Projects: Organized a Johns Creek community day of service - Hero 4 a Day – on May 3, 2014 with the intent of becoming an annual event under the direction of the LJC Alumni. Brightened and beautified the pedestrian tunnel in Newtown Park with security lights and a painted mural depicting the four seasons. Created the website VolunteerJohnsCreek.org which connects willing volunteers with opportunities to help non-profit organizations serving the Johns Creek community.
Class of 2015: Constructed a pergola at the Park Place bocce ball court in Newtown Park. Installed six kiosks on the hiking trails at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve. Completed phase one of a 3-part project with the beautification and landscaped triangle area located within the paved walking paths in Newtown Park.
Class of 2016 Projects: Enhanced the Shakerag Park Nature Trail. Created a strategic plan for The Hub Resource Center and developed a pilot “Family Life University” program. Developed a PSA for suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
Class of 2017 Projects: Created 11 new garden plots for the Community Garden in Newtown Park; Created the ARA Police K9 Training Facility for the JCPD. The facility is located in Cauley Creek Park.; Worked to preserve The Historic Macedonia African Methodist Church Cemetery
Class of 2018: The entire class worked on the first ever International Festival in conjunction with the City of Johns Creek. The event was a HUGE success!
Class of 2019: There were 3 LJC projects for the 10th year class. The Vietnam Wall of Healing Installation support fundraising campaign; Adaptive Drive vehicle donated to Emory Johns Creek Hospital to assist disabled people gain mobility and independence and the Autrey Mill Butterfly Habitat with drig irrigation, water pump, milk weeds, nectar sources and landscaping. Each group project was a great success!
